If you count the band then yea it was 3/4 full. Plus this happened at 7:15. I saw more than a few people not come in until 745 or later.

Just in time to miss the presentation? Surely not?? Just teasing, but there did not seem to be a lot of support. The band sits in the same space every home game..

i dont care what any of the morons in big stone think, Phil is the greatest coach to ever grace PV and possibly the LPD.

Even in the last few years, with PV being really devoid of talent, he took the team to the playoffs every year and always finished with a non-losing record.
to be able to get a piece of the LPD title last year was one of Phil's best coaching jobs.

Even without NFL talent, Phil won 3 state titles, played in four, and took bad teams a long way.

So, congrats Phil, and thank you for everything you did for the PV program.

Some fans may take shots or not realize just how much you did, but everybody with any piece of a brain at all knows how much you will be missed.

Anyway after all that the man deserves some props, I am going to miss Phil. He probably hung on a couple of years too long but he was going for 300 wins, he deserved the chance to get that after putting PV on the football map. It was almost unnoticed till he got there. He is just another in a long line of great SW Va. coaches. He joins Fry, Cummings, Turner, Carlock, Colobro. He did alot for football in Va. and the Hall of Fame noticed and even down thirty points to GC a couple of Fridays ago he was still coaching. Enjoy retirement and good luck to the next in line because you are going to need it. I think the number is eight, that's the number of coaches Alabama has had since Bear Bryant retired.

Phil Robbins is a legend. You don't get to be one by just luck. Like a lot of legendary coaches, he is going to have people who don't like him. Biggest reason is that a strong willed coach will make some people mad. They tend to go with what they think is best, and over time, smaller areas, you are going to tick the wrong people off and your best supporters become some of your least supporters. It happens. I don't think Phil was the God of coaching, but he did control his team, he maximized the talent he had and won more than about anybody. Best I know on Phil, you can love him to death or hate him but it's a fairly thin line between the two. He's brash, ****y, and it has been well proven, sometimes speaks with that tone, maybe not trying to be politically correct. You want to know why his support has left? Probably that as much as anything. He was around when a coach could push the kids, tell them they sucked, was able to discipline them, and was able to control the kids, and knew the kids would get it twice as bad when they got home by their parents for being, for lack of a better word, jerks. He's tried his same style, but the world and the way too many kids are now, has changed. You tell a kid he sucks now, instead of the kid trying to prove you wrong, and wanting to not suck, they just quit, go complain to mommy and daddy who instead of telling them to buck up and show him different, scream about how bad a coach is for saying that. Phil has changed his style to try and maximize the talent he has had the last few years, and played a very tough schedule, when he could have done the same as other schools, found a way to cakewalk through the year, maybe got a few more regular season wins, got in the playoffs and had that trophy to brag about. He didn't schedule with the idea of just making it, he scheduled if the talent would work and break through, to actually win something. As for the workouts, the practice schedules, what they do, don't do. I don't know what he does or doesn't do but maybe he realizes he has kids who don't have the desire to be there, the want to be better and after you lead horses to water so many times and they don't drink, you do get a bit tired of trying to lead them. So as much as I'll sometimes down Phil Robbins, afterall I'm from a program that reguarly squared off in big games with them and seen them get the breaks, I respect what he did. Did he have some awesome talent? Absolutely. There was also times when the talent wasn't worlds better or was even worse and he made those kids and the fans believe they were better than they were. He and his staff could find the weak links as well as anybody and exploit them. So maybe he's lost the 'edge' near the end, maybe he couldn't motivate the players like he could in the past, or maybe he even lost touch with trying. I don't believe that to be the case. I think he reached a point where his old school style was effective still but too many would rather listen to the 'generation of greatness' in the stands, and not him. Maybe PV could put someone in who is a bit more PC, someone who can massage the new generation and get a bit more work out of them, but anybody who knows Phil, knows he loves, loves to win. If you don't think he would do just about anything to win, you're crazy. So, yeah over time, he probaby lost support. The old saying you don't know what you got till it's gone tends to apply I think.
